6 REASONS WHY ROBIN HOOD’S BAY IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES TO TAKE YOUR DOG ON HOLIDAY.

With dog friendly beaches, stunning historic sites and lots of pubs and cafés fit for humans and hounds, we’ve got everything you need for a dog-friendly holiday.

1.  There’s plenty of dog-friendly accommodation. Try properties in Upper Bay and Fylingthorpe if you’d prefer somewhere with an enclosed garden like Sea Fern Cottage.

2.  Robin Hood’s Bay offer all year round access to the beach for your four legged friend.

Try this 4 mile circular walk from Sea Fern Cottage head to the beach and when you get there go south past Boggle Hole until you reach Stoupe Beck.  Here a little footbridge takes walkers over the beck and joins the Cleveland Way National Trail. Pick up the Cleveland way here and head back North until you get back to Robin Hood’s Bay Robin Hood's Bay to Stoupe Beck Loop.  For a longer 9 mile route carry on along the beach past Stoupe Beck to the Ravenscar headland. You might have to do a bit of rock scrambling and dogs will need to be on leads as you approach the colonies of Grey and Common Seals.  Head up the cliff walk and across the golf course towards Raven Hall Hotel where you can have lunch or a picnic at the national trust visitor centre.  Pick up The Clevelend Way to see the old Alum works or take The Cinder Track and make your way back to Robin Hood’s Bay.

3.  Local attractions like Whitby Abbeyand Rievaulx Abbey allow you to take dogs in their grounds as long as they are kept on a lead.

4.  There are plenty of dog-friendly and pubs, some that we can recommend include…

    • Smugglers pub and restaurant in lower bay welcome dogs inside
    • The Bay Hotel, in lower bay, serves food and drinks and welcome dogs inside.
    • The Fylingdales Inn, in Fylinthorpe serves food and drinks and dogs are welcome indoors.
    • The Victoria Hotel in upper bay serve food and drinks and dogs are welcome indoors.

          5.  You will find some great dog friendly cafés and depending on the type of walk you want to combine your coffee stop with we can recommend the following:

For a Woodland Walk head to Maybeck and enjoy a cake at the idyllic setting of Falling Foss Tea Garden.  A nice 3.5mile route can be found here Littlebeck and Falling Foss.  For a beach walk at Robin Hood’s Bay try Boggle hole youth hostel café or for a beach walk at Sandsend try Sandside Café you can sit indoors or out on the deck at Sandsend and enjoy amazing views of the sea. When walking around the shops in Whitby Rusty Shears welcomes dogs in their quaint courtyard and inside their vintage tea room. Apparently they even make doggy chinos!

          6.  Paws of Robin Hood's Bay You can't get more dog friendly than a pet shop dedicated to the pooch visitors of Robin Hood's Bay.
